The mission of the Bergen County Department of Health Services is to coordinate and assure the preservation, protection and promotion of the health, well-being and quality of life for all residents and their communities through a countywide partnership.
The department provides a comprehensive roster of health care and essential public health services:
- Monitoring health status to identify community health problems
- Diagnosing and investigating community health problems and health hazards in the community
- Enforcing laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety
- Informing, educating, and empowering people about health issues
- Mobilizing community partnerships to identify and solve health problems
- Linking people to needed personal health services and assuring the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable
- Evaluating effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services
- Developing policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.
