Ever Taste a Rainbow?

Ever Taste a Rainbow? is a fun, interactive program for pre-school children about fruits and vegetables. The lesson introduces pre-school age children to the importance of eating a "rainbow" of colors of fruits and vegetables. The lesson plan includes a complete description of the activities.

At the end of the story lesson, the children take home a rainbow to color as they eat fruits and vegetables from the rainbow. A certificate is provided to honor thier achievement.

Why Fruits and Vegetables?
Almost everyone needs to eat more fruits and vegetables. A growing body of research shows that fruits and vegetables are critical to promoting good health. To get the amount that's recommended, most people need to increase the amount they currently eat every day.

Fruits and vegetables come in terrific colors and flavors, but their real beauty lies in what's inside. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of many vitamins, minerals and other natural substances that may help protect you from chronic diseases.

Eating fruits and vegetables of different colors gives your body a wide range of valuable nutrients, like fiber, folate, potassium and vitamins A and C.

How Can You Participate?
Libraries, summer recreation programs and preschools in towns that contract with the Department of Health Services for health promotion can receive materials in sufficient quantities to conduct the program with their children. They may also schedule staff from the Office of Health Promotion to present the program for their children.
