 Partnering with the Community for a Healthier County

The Office of Health Promotion addresses the essential public health services by informing, educating and empowering people about health issues, linking people to needed personal health services, and mobilizing community partnerships to identify and solve health problems. The office is responsible for conducting a health education program for contracting municipalities and fulfilling health education functions in a variety of programs. The office also provides guidance and technical expertise to the Partnership for Community Health, manages the Health Promotion Resource Center, increases public awareness and education through a variety of channels, and coordinates participation in countywide events.

at least five fruits and vegetables a day

Key accomplishments in 2001 included:
  • Distributed 60,656 educational materials·
  • Conducted over 450 site visits
  • Provided outreach and education to over 8,777 women and men on breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer
  • Reached students in 6 towns with nutrition and fitness activities
  • Expanded services of the Health Promotion Resource Center
  • Provided professional leadership and facilitation to the Partnership for Community Health
