NJDEP Issues New Warnings on Eating Fish From Local Waters

Eating crabs, fish and eels from rivers and bays in New Jersey can be hazardous to your health.

The NJDEP warns fisherman that certain types of fish contain harmful levels of PCBs, mercury and dioxin. These substances can cause cancer and other serious health problems. Those at greatest risk include infants, children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and women of childbearing age.

The new guidelines may be viewed on the NJDEP web site. Information is included on the Hackensack and Passaic rivers and Newark Bay.
