Bergen Teaches Food Safety in Twelve Languages

Bergen County Department of Health Services (BCDHS) conducts classes for food handlers in twelve languages, including Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Russian, Hindi, Gujarati and English. The department also offers the only extensive, 18-hour food managers course in the state.

Last year BCDHS provided about 600 food handlers and managers with a working knowledge of food safety. Enrollment is expected to be even higher this year, as local towns pass laws calling for food handlers to obtain formal training. BCDHS provides health services in 29 Bergen County towns, 24 of which have already made food safety training a requirement.

The courses are conducted at regular intervals throughout the year. For further information about the course and enrollment fees, call Carmine Cappuccio at (201) 634-2712.
