The Mental Health Division serves as the administrative arm of the Mental Health Board, a state-mandated body charged with overseeing the funding and operation of the public mental health system. The Mental Health Division is responsible for system coordination, planning and advocacy, and the Children's Interagency Coordinating Council.
Advocacy

The office of the Mental Health Administrator serves an advocacy role for mental health consumers who have questions and concerns about mental health services provided by the publiic health system of care. If a satisfactory resolution is not established at this level, consumers can be referred to the Office of the Public Advocate. Issues that reflect problems within the system may also be referred to the Bergen County Mental Health Board.
