Intoxicated Driver Resource Center

The IDRC (Intoxicated Driver Resource Center) detains, educates and evaluates drunk and drugged drivers, boaters, and underage drinkers who have been convicted of DUI (Driving Under the Influence). These offenders are mandated by the court to participate in the IDRC program. Non-compliant offenders face further revocation of their licenses and possible incarceration. The two-day program includes six hours per day of drug and alcohol education as well as evaluation, treatment referral and monitoring when indicated. The program served 1,556 clients in 1999, of which 49% were referred for further education and counseling. The facility met all state-approved guidelines for operation. Achievements in 1999 included:

  • Assisting in the reduction of fatalities due to drunk/drugged driving accidents in the county
  • Participating in a research project with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Addiction Services, Research and Information Systems to determine drug use among IDRC clients.
