(
HACKENSACK
) Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney and the Bergen County Department of Health Services’ Office of Health Promotion encourage residents of all ages to participate in the 10th annual Walk at Work Day on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Community groups, schools and businesses are all invited to participate. Awards will be given to organizations, in each of three size categories, with the highest percentage of people walking. The school with the highest percentage of students and staff walking will also receive an award |
“Engaging in a regular walking program is an excellent way to maintain good health,” said McNerney. “I encourage all residents to walk for better health on May 19 and every day that follows. Organize a walking group in your work place, school or community. Make a commitment to walk before work, during lunch, after work or whatever time works best for your group.” |
Regular walking has many benefits. It can help you manage your weight, increase your energy level, reduce stress and lower your risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes. Walking is inexpensive, the risk of side effects is very low and the benefits are numerous. |
Register by May 12th to receive a complete Walk at Work packet. Please submit one registration form per organization or school. People who register will receive a certificate of achievement. |
