Staff at the Bergen County Department of Health Services is available to assist residents and organizations in contracting communities implement smoke-free policies and enact ordinances. Information on environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is available, as well as the Smoke-Free Dining in Bergen County Directory and smoking cessation resources. Residents with ETS complains may call their local health department.
The State of New Jersey is working to control tobacco in many ways. Components of the program include the CAT (Communities Against Tobacco) Coalition, TASE, REBEL and tobacco dependence treatment programs. CAT is a grass roots volunteer effort, working to help make Bergen County smoke free. TASE stands for Tobacco Age of Sale Enforcement. The goal is simple: no sale of tobacco products to minors. Anyone who has concerns about tobacco sales to minors in the community can contact the local police and health departments.
